January in our homeschool – 2021

February 7, 2021February 7, 2021 by annieandfam

This has been such an interesting academic year for us. While it has been an extremely difficult year for us personally as a family, it has also been a really amazing year for our homeschool. It’s been an interesting juxtaposition and I am so grateful that our time learning together can be a source of …

December in our homeschool – 2020

January 2, 2021January 2, 2021 by annieandfam

Ahhh what to say about the final month in a very, very challenging year? This December was different than years prior in many ways. We were unable to celebrate Christmas with our extended families because of COVID and yet we were able to spend a lot of time with my parents, because they’re our bubble …

November in our homeschool – 2020

December 2, 2020December 2, 2020 by annieandfam

At this risk of sounding like a broken record – this year is weird. There are the ways in which this year is weird for everyone, global pandemic and teetering democracy and all. And then there are unique ways we managed to make this year even weirder for our family, like deciding to do a …

Autumn Meal Plan

November 15, 2020November 15, 2020 by annieandfam

We have been living out of suitcases for two and a half months as we’ve been out of our house for a remodel, and a lot of our regular routines have been up in the air. One of the biggest areas that has felt unsettled for us has been food. This was amplified by the …

October in our homeschool – 2020

November 2, 2020November 3, 2020 by annieandfam

What a whirlwind October has been for our family! We spent part of the month on a road trip to Colorado, and as I write this we’ve been out of our house 63 days while we remodel parts of our house. Add onto all of that upheaval the stress of the worsening COVID pandemic and …

September in our homeschool – 2020

October 4, 2020October 5, 2020 by annieandfam

When I started this blog two years ago I started out by writing monthly journal entries about homeschool life. Last year, I switched to writing about specific blocks I was teaching my then fourth grader. Having looked back at old posts over the summer I’ve decided I like the monthly journal entry approach best. They …

Back to school 2020

September 17, 2020September 17, 2020 by annieandfam

This is our fifth official year homeschooling (meaning, my oldest is in fifth grade … my kids have always been home …) and this year’s back to school vibe is unlike any other we have experienced. Normally back to school involves back to our lessons – yes – but also back to ballet and back …

Self-care during a pandemic

July 29, 2020July 29, 2020 by annieandfam

I have been reluctant to write about step three of Plan It Out because it’s about self care. What even is self care for mothers in this time of the Coronavirus pandemic? We are home with our children 24/7 and I know that for me, many of my self-care practices have gone out the window.  …

Resources for a Waldorf-inspired Fifth Grade

July 21, 2020July 22, 2020 by annieandfam

I am right in the thick of figuring out the resources I will be using for my fifth grader this year. I’m sharing about resources (click here to see my resources planned for first grade) and honestly it’s all still a bit messy for fifth grade. For one thing, I am concerned about libraries being …

Resources for first grade (the second time around)

July 16, 2020 by annieandfam

Hello! This week in Plan It Out we are talking about resources and rhythm, and I thought it would be fun to share about what resources I’m planning on using for my second child’s first grade. You can see last week’s post on our block plan for this coming year here. I’ll write about fifth …

Right in the thick of the busiest, most expansive part of summer. We’re taking trip after trip this summer, making up for lost time and catching up with people we haven’t seen for years. Last week it was with my husband’s co-workers in Southern California ☝🏻. It’s all good - really, really good. But it’s also requiring flexing socializing muscles that seem to have atrophied. I’m trying to be mindful of taking breaks and retreating into a good book when needed.
More curricula and books rolling in. 🤗 First photo is stuff for my 9-yr-old (grades 3/4 this year). Second photo is for age 13 / 7th grade and third photo is some cute stuff for my kindergartener. We own everything we need for kindergarten (and then some!) but it’s fun to get a few special new books. And lastly, stickers. It’s hilarious how motivated my kids are by stickers.
This morning was my annual Powell’s Books back-to-school shopping trip. Always the most fun. Usually I go alone, but this year I was accompanied by my 13-year-old who was genuinely helpful and accepts payment in graphic novels. I’m planning 7th grade and a 3rd/4th blend (plus kindergarten!) and it’s going to be great. I mean … it’s going to be a lot of things … and great is one of them.
We’re home now and fully recovered from jet lag 😅 and I just wanted to memorialize our trip with this fun map. It doesn’t capture all of the crazy routes and mountain passes we took, but it captures the gist of it. Road trip of a lifetime. 🚗
The crystal clear water of Plansee, Austria. 😍 We had plans to wind down our trip with a few days of kayaking and stand up paddle boarding here but instead the weather was cool, our littlest seriously banged up her knees twice and got her first bee sting. 😢 So we pivoted to resting, doing things we could do while carrying her and visiting our fourth pharmacy of the trip. 😅 (Pharmacies are amazing over here.) Anyway, maybe another time Plansee. You’re gorgeous.
A visit to Neuschwanstein! And all five of us together. ☺️
Thirteen! Happy birthday to our precious girl! 🎈🎂
Forty-three today and 13 tomorrow. 💞 #shesmyfavoritebirthdaypresent
