October in our homeschool – 2021

November 13, 2021November 13, 2021 by annieandfam

This fall has been a busy one, and I’m just now getting a moment in mid-November to reflect back on October in our homeschool. September was a wild adjustment to our family’s return to in-person activities and it took some trial and error to find the right combination of activities to meet everyone’s needs (as …

September in our homeschool -2021

October 15, 2021October 15, 2021 by annieandfam

September! Woof. This September was the Septemberiest September I’ve ever experienced. Not only was there the normal adjustment to having regular commitments again after a slow, laid-back summer, but we adjusted to getting places at a set time again after 18 months of having pretty much none of that in our life.  Our family dived …

Second grade the second time around

August 10, 2021September 2, 2021 by annieandfam

Hi there! I’m here to chat a bit about plans for my second grader for this upcoming school year. This will be my second time teaching second grade. My son is 8 and he has a June birthday, so we actually did a bit of second grade work at the end of last year, because …

May in our homeschool – 2021

June 22, 2021June 23, 2021 by annieandfam

This post contains affiliate links. We have been done with our school year for several weeks now but I wanted to make sure that before I fully move on to planning next school year, I took a moment to write about May. In May I attempted to combine my kids for a joint block for …

April in our homeschool – 2021

May 4, 2021May 8, 2021 by annieandfam

This year our April was spent focused on Greek history (fifth grade!) and animal legends (second grade!) along with re-joining society as our kids picked up extra curricular activities, my husband and I recieved our first vaccine shots and we ventured to our favorite farm stay and the coast for a weekend adventures. Last month’s …

March in our homeschool – 2021

April 6, 2021April 8, 2021 by annieandfam

Hello. I am tired. I don’t really feel up to writing a summary of last month’s homeschool, but I do like having written these summaries. So here we go. It may be brief. The anniversary of when the pandemic hit home was March 13 for our family. I had gone to a barre3 class and …

February in our homeschool – 2021

March 2, 2021March 4, 2021 by annieandfam

February is my least favorite month to homeschool. The days are short, we’ve been stuck inside together for too long and patience is in short supply. Normally February is the month I spend exploring local school Web sites to imagine there is a better way than this homeschool gig. But, thanks to the pandemic, there …

January in our homeschool – 2021

February 7, 2021February 7, 2021 by annieandfam

This has been such an interesting academic year for us. While it has been an extremely difficult year for us personally as a family, it has also been a really amazing year for our homeschool. It’s been an interesting juxtaposition and I am so grateful that our time learning together can be a source of …

November in our homeschool – 2020

December 2, 2020December 2, 2020 by annieandfam

At this risk of sounding like a broken record – this year is weird. There are the ways in which this year is weird for everyone, global pandemic and teetering democracy and all. And then there are unique ways we managed to make this year even weirder for our family, like deciding to do a …

October in our homeschool – 2020

November 2, 2020November 3, 2020 by annieandfam

What a whirlwind October has been for our family! We spent part of the month on a road trip to Colorado, and as I write this we’ve been out of our house 63 days while we remodel parts of our house. Add onto all of that upheaval the stress of the worsening COVID pandemic and …

We hiked the loop around Tre Cime - the iconic peaks in the Dolomites - and it was really flipping hard and really flipping worth it.
Austria ➡️ Italy. We drove south through spectacular landscapes today, including Hohe Tauern National Park, and landed in the Dolomites, a region we’ve been wanting to see for a long time. The first photo is Pasterze Glacier in the park and the second is from a cemetery in Dobbiaco with a view of the mountains.
If America wants to show it values life let’s start with ✔️ universal healthcare ✔️ paid family leave ✔️ raising the minimum wage ✔️ universal pre-k ✔️ investing in our schools ✔️ making college affordable ✔️ protecting our citizens from gun violence. What if we led with love instead of control?
The kids burned out on tourism and walking hours each day so we found a pool where the locals go. Such a fun time. I’ll be so sad when our time in Salzburg comes to an end. It’s an amazing city - I really had no idea how lucky I was to live here for a year in college.
We took our kids on the Sound of Music tour, which was so dorky but so fun. American tourists are obsessed with this movie and most Austrians have never even seen it. This is the church where Maria married Captain von Trapp. 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨
Happy Father’s Day to our favorite guy! I wish we could take you to a castle and an ice cave in the Alps every day. 🏔
A day trip to Königssee in Bavaria. So beautiful. (Not pictured: hot, cranky people, confusing parking, ATM problems, everyone reached their limit on sausage consumption, etc. You know, real life.)
Salzburg! 😭 😍 It’s been seven years since we’ve visited - our oldest was the age our youngest is now. This is the city where my husband and I met and fell in love, while studying abroad. This is where our story started and it’s magical to be back. (Lots more photos in Stories & I saved a highlight reel called Europe 2022.)
